19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his first championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's first championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hard court since that period of 2023.

Success also means the Russian has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on court had caused observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent defended four early opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
